Oct. 4--The unused batteries, Vienna sausages and bottled water still stockpiled in the closet already clued in most Southeast Texans, but on Tuesday a team of leading forecasters scaled back their predictions for the current hurricane season.
An average year with a total of 11 named storms and six hurricanes are in the season's final forecast by the Tropical Meteorology Project at Colorado State University.
Already, the Atlantic basin has had nine named storms, five of them hurricanes. If the Colorado State team is right, which has not been the case so far this season, the Atlantic will see two more named storms this month,…
