Oct. 1--Desks at Osceola Elementary School in Ormond Beach are better stocked this week thanks to the efforts of high school student Andrew Hart.

Andrew, 16, a junior at New Smyrna Beach High School, spearheaded an effort to collect 70 backpacks as well as school supplies for the elementary students.

Andrew's parents, Robert and Jane Hart, own the New Smyrna Speedway. Race fans who brought backpacks received free admission to the speedway on three nights of racing in about a month's time.

Andrew said that as word spread, more backpacks and soon school supplies came pouring in. He said he collected the supplies for about…
