Hometown bright light: A former Lake Howell High football player suits up for a pivotal role on NBC's 'Friday Night Lights.

Oct. 1--Scott Porter played wide receiver for Seminole County's Lake Howell High before graduating in 1997. On Tuesday, he returns to high-school football, moves to quarterback and gains a national audience. NBC's Friday Night Lights gives a pivotal role to Porter, a 27-year-old performer with limited acting experience. "This has been somewhat of a shock," Porter says. "It was all way too big for me at first. I'm starting to realize this is happening. This is a lead role in a strong ensemble. I am extremely lucky. I hope I'll prove my worth along the line."
He proved his worth by moving from Orlando theme parks to off-Broadway, first as a substitute in the a cappella group Toxic Audio's show and later as a star in Altar Boyz. His natural charm infused Altar Boyz, a musical about a Christian boy band. Success in Altar Boyz allowed him to hire an agent, who helped him land Friday Night Lights.
