Oct. 1--Students at Derita Alternative School are banned from attending Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools athletic events under new security measures announced by the district on Wednesday. The ban also includes other CMS students who exhibited chronic disruptive behavior or who participate in gang-style activities, said Maurice Green, CMS's chief operating officer. Green said banning students from games isn't new, but has not been enforced as strongly by the district. Derita Alternative serves students who have been moved out of other schools.
