Chisinau, 29 September: The Prosecutor-General's Office has opened a criminal case against MP Vasile Colta, who was detained by the Romanian customs officers at the Albita customs checkpoint for attempting to smuggle a large batch of cigarettes.

The investigation showed that, using his diplomatic passport, MP Vasile Colta crossed the Leuseni check point [in Moldova] at about 1100 [0800 gmt] on 19 September 2006 without declaring the fact that he was carrying 11,007 packs of cigarettes worth 122,055 lei (about 7,000 euros) in his Mercedes car, the press …
