Richmond International Airport traffic rises in August.

Sep. 27--Richmond International Airport had its 15th consecutive month of record traffic in August, sparked by service from JetBlue Airways to New York and Boston.

The airport had a 9.7 percent increase over the same month last year, with total passenger traffic of 295,606.

The sole cloud on the horizon was an 8.9 percent drop in traffic for AirTran Airways compared with August 2005. It comes after a 1 percent drop in its July passenger numbers compared with the same month last year.

AirTran has been battling Delta Air Lines to the Atlanta market.
