European Commission says Bulgaria, Romania can join EU in 2007.

Sofia, 26 September: Bulgaria, along with neighbouring Romania, are to join the EU in January 2007. The date of entry is recommended in a report by the European Commission presented in Strasbourg 26 September.

The presentations by Commission President Jose Manuel Dorao Barroso and Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn were broadcast live by the Bulgarian National TV and the National Radio.
