Sep. 25--In the wake of police calls and neighborhood complaints, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation officials said Sunday they will stop renting out a gymnasium for after-hours parties. Rentals are suspended "until we feel confident we can open it safely and with no problems," park and recreation department spokesman Mike Cozza said Sunday.
The gymnasium is attached to both Irwin Avenue Open Elementary School and Ray's Splash Planet, and shared by the county's park and recreation department and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Park and recreation officials rented out the facility for a 300-person birthday party Saturday night,…
