Sep. 22--When Prescott Burgess came to Michigan four years ago, he was expected to be an instant star.
Rivals.com ranked him the nation's No. 6 overall prospect, and that carried an instant burden.
Last Saturday against Notre Dame, some of that pressure was released with what U-M coach Lloyd Carr called Burgess' "best game." Two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown and the other to Notre Dame's 5-yard line, showed Burgess can do things rare for a college linebacker.
His experience as a high school safety came in handy: Once he had the ball, he knew where to go with it.
"Anytime a defender scores on an interception or turnover, it gets everyone going," said Burgess, whose sixth-ranked Wolverines host Wisconsin on Saturday. "It proves to me everybody wants to get out and make plays."
Burgess is yet another Michigan defender whose confidence was boosted by new defensive coordinator Ron English.
