Sep. 17--The Charlotte City Council is expected to decide Monday night on a 120-acre zoning case that involves a creative approach to solving the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools' facility space shortage.

Withrow Capital Investments and Cambridge Properties are asking to change the zoning of the land, on Brookshire Boulevard at Interstate 485 in northwest Charlotte, to allow a mixed-use development that includes residential, retail, mini-storage and business office use.

As part of the proposal, developer George Maloomian has offered to donate land and help CMS build a small elementary school -- about half the size of a typical CMS…
