Sep. 16--A pill GlaxoSmithKline sells to treat diabetes is the first medicine that may also prevent or delay the onset of the disease.
Data from the largest diabetes prevention study ever done show that Avandia reduces the chance of getting diabetes by 60 percent among those at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. Results of the study, which was partly paid for by the company, were presented at a medical conference in Denmark on Friday. The study was also published online in The Lancet, a noted British medical journal.
