The annual $25,000 Rea Award for the Short Story has been given to Tillie Olsen for her collection Tell Me a Riddle, first published in 1962.
The author, who is 82, was 50 when she published the collection, her first book. It has been widely anthologized, and its four stories have been adapted for the stage, the movies and as an opera. It is to be reissued this fall as a Dell paperback, with an introduction by John Leonard.
