Aston Martin may be on the block as parent company Ford searches for ways to raise capital, but that hasn't slowed the British sports car maker's push for more product.
Earlier this year movie studio and automaker publicity machines revealed a new model, dubbed the Aston Martin DBS ("Martin, Aston Martin,'' Jan. 30). Originally planned as a one-off model for use in the upcoming James Bond action film Casino Royale, DBS is now shaping up as a special addition to the Aston lineup as DBRS9.
Aston plans to build 300 road versions of the car based on the DB9. DBRS9 (above and right), spied testing at Nurburgring, features a wider track, lower ground clearance, bolder air intakes and a performance boost from 450 to 500 hp from the V12 under the hood. The Bond movie is out in November, so look for the DBRS9 soon thereafter, priced at about $250,000.
