Acura makes debut
Honda's Acura-badged LMP2 V8 that will race in the 2007 American Le Mans Series made its on-track debut in the back of the Lola B05/40 chassis at Firebird International Raceway. The Fernandez Racing-run car covered more than 250 miles over two days in the hands of team boss Adrian Fernandez.
The first test of the Honda-engined Courage chassis that the Andretti Green Racing and Highcroft teams will run in the ALMS could be as long as a month away.
A.J. goes truckin'
Champ Car driver A.J. Allmendinger will drive two Craftsman Truck Series races for Bill Davis Racing, starting with New Hampshire on Sept. 16. Allmendinger will also race at Talladega on Oct. 7.
Kovalainen moving up
Renault F1 is due to announce its highly rated Finnish test driver Heikki Kovalainen will race alongside Giancarlo Fisichella in 2007. Renault has also recruited two Brazilians, Ricardo Zonta and GP2 series front-runner Nelson Piquet Jr., as its test drivers. Super Aguri outcast Franck Montagny will likely replace Zonta, Toyota's main test driver for the past four seasons.
