Sep. 13--Central Piedmont Community College will host a small public high school next year that lets 11th-graders work toward their diploma and earn college credit.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board voted unanimously Tuesday to launch Middle College High School at CPCC. It will cost about $683,000 a year and serve up to 200 students.

The school will take 11th-graders in 2007-08 and include 11th and 12th grades in later years. Students will be able to take CPCC and Advanced Placement courses and do job shadowing and internships to prepare for a career.
