Taipei, Sept. 11, 2006 (CENS)--The National Communications Commission (NCC) plans to revise related laws and require local cable-TV operators to provide their subscribers set-top boxes (STB) free of charge from next year, leading to digitalization of the local cable-TV operation entirely in 2012, when the plan is completed. With STB retailing at NT$5,000-6,000 now, the move may trigger strong backlash from cable-TV operators but will be a boon to local STB makers, such as Hon Hai and Asus.
