The Lexus way
Looking at photos of the '07 Lexus LS 460 ("Lexus LS All Grown Up,'' Aug. 21), I feel Lexus has done what BMW could not (or would not) do. It made the "Bangle Butt'' an integrative and attractive part of a vehicle instead of an ugly appendage.

As an owner of a '93 Lexus LS 400, I was excited to read about the new LS 460. But what's this? Top speed is only 130 mph? My 13-year-old Lexus has plenty of power throughout, and it can do 155 with ease. Unless there is an option (like Mercedes' AMG code 030) to increase the top speed, I will not consider buying it.

Reap cheap mileage
I like Aug. 14 letter writer Jim Lambert's idea (buying a $4,500, 30-mpg '96 Geo Tracker). I found an '89 Honda CRX HF at auction on eBay. I was the successful bidder at $455. It was sitting for a couple of years and needed TLC. Happily, with a new fuel pump and new fuel injectors, it runs like a top. When new, this car was rated at an estimated 56-mpg highway.
