CINCINNATI -- Kroger is opening SmartCare Centers in stores in Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee, beginning in Atlanta this fall.

"As a dedicated provider of superior health and pharmacy services, we take pride in being the first grocery retailer in the region to deliver SmartCare's convenient access to basic and preventative health care to our communities," said Glynn Jenkins, a Kroger spokesman.

SmartCare also is partnering with Fred Meyer, Kroger's Portland, Ore.-based division.
