Sep. 6--What will it take to bring Lake Lavon back to its normal level?
As of Tuesday, a quick 85 billion gallons of water or so would do the trick.
That's enough to cover more than 260,000 acres (or 406 square miles, or almost half of Collin County) with a foot of water.
Lake Lavon was last at normal elevation -- 492 feet above sea level -- on April 29, 2005. Sixteen distressing months later, the reservoir is holding 41 percent of its capacity.
Its elevation of 476.7 feet Tuesday afternoon was more than 15 feet below normal and the lowest since Lavon's dam and storage were enlarged in 1975.
