Sep. 6--Wendy Lopez, co-founder and chief executive of LopezGarcia Group, one of the state's leading engineering design and environmental planning firms, is the local Athena Award winner for 2006.
Her company has 175 employees in six offices, and more than 55 percent of its employees are women or minorities.
Ms. Lopez is the past president of the Dallas-Fort Worth chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners, and she chaired the Greater Dallas Chamber's Women's Business Council for two years.
She was the first Hispanic woman elected to the Dallas Assembly and later served as its president.
