Research laid practically bare

' book review

This overview of all aspects of the research process is an excellent primer on the subject for researchers in both academic and applied fields.

Nick Moore writes in a highly accessible way, avoiding jargon and using concise, clear language. His thoughts are equally well organised -- the book is structured methodically and comprehensively.

Part one deals with all elements of the research process -- from developing the research objectives, through obtaining financial support and securing other resources, to writing the report and disseminating results.

Moore, rightly, poses more questions than he answers in the section on developing research objectives, because this is precisely what researchers should do when embarking on a project. Some basic questions need to be clarified and articulated: What are you trying to achieve? What issues are you addressing? Who will benefit? What things will change as a result of the project?
