When Lauren Blitzer and Lauren Levin, both 25, realized that there was a dearth of relationship advice books aimed at young, gay women, they teamed up and wrote Same Sex in the City, a guide that provides firsthand insight into being a lesbian. Curious? Read on for their interesting insights.
[Q] When did both of you realize that you were gay?
[LB] When I studied abroad in college and fell in love with my first girlfriend. Before that, I was always breaking up with guys because things weren't right.
[LL] I'd been attracted to girls but disregarded it because I didn't know gay women could have families. But when I met a woman who was thinking of adopting with her girlfriend, I saw you could do both.
[Q] How difficult was coming out?
[LB] It was hard for me because my parents disapproved at first. But the more they learned about what being a lesbian meant, the more okay they were with the idea of it.
[Q] Do shows like The OC and The L Word accurately portray what it's like to be gay?.
