Sep. 2--The Lake Norman area now has its second Jewish congregation started by residents who want a place to worship without driving to Charlotte. Lake Norman Jewish Congregation in Mooresville grew out of the former Jewish Community of Lake Norman, the first effort at the lake to bring Jewish religious service and education to the area. That initial group is still operating, but now has a new name, Beth Shalom of Lake Norman. The fact that the lake area seems poised to support two Jewish groups, each aligned with a different school of Jewish thought, speaks to the growing Jewish presence in a predominantly Christian area.
