The World Health Organization (WHO) regional committee has decided to field an African candidate for the vacant position of the WHO director-general, the minister of health said.

Closing the 56th session of the regional committee for Africa, Dr Tewodros Adhanom said on Friday [1 September] that the regional committee has reached consensus to field one African candidate for the stated vacant position.
