SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) - Apple Computer Inc. Chief Executive Steve Jobs did more than add tech-industry brainpower to the company's board by giving a director's seat to Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt.
He also enlisted a kindred soul for Apple's upcoming digital-music fight with Microsoft Corp.
Like Jobs, who helped pioneer the market for personal computers only to see PCs running Microsoft software eventually dominate the business, Schmidt has worked at a company that's been on the losing side of a battle with the colossus of Redmond.
