Taipei, Aug. 24, 2006 (CENS)--The central government's budget outlay for 2007 will hit NT$1,663.8 billion, up NT$92.1 billion or 5.9%, over the 2006 level, the highest growth over the past eight years and even higher than the projected economic growth rate, according to the 2007 central government budget program and special budget program for expansion of public investments, approved by the Executive Yuan (the Cabinet) yesterday (Aug. 23). The high budget outlay growth is attributed mainly to surge in national defense outlay, which increases by NT$71 billion, or near 30%, over the 2006 level.
