Perhaps there was a misunderstanding. Perhaps when Porsche insisted the Boxster S-based coupe would be the lowest-powered and lowest-priced model to carry the 'gator badge, something got lost in translation. Perhaps when we heard "Nie!'' what Porsche really said was "Oui!''
Then again, perhaps not.
No one seriously believed Porsche anyway. Not when it offers a dozen or so variations on the 911 theme from which to choose, as well as four takes (and counting) on its Cayenne sport/ute. So why would anyone buy into the preposterous notion that Porsche would release just a single version of the Cayman coupe? Fact is, few folks 'round these parts would flinch if Porsche followed the rollout of the standard Cayman with a Cayman Turbo, Cayman Club Sport, Cayman 4S, Cayman convertible...
Okay, that would be weird-but not entirely unimaginable. But we digress.
No matter who said or heard what at the outset, Cayman is a reality. Evidence to that end extends beyond the pictures on these pages, too: Stop by your friendly Porsche dealer and you will surely encounter a couple non-S Caymans for yourself.
If you know anything at all about the journey from Boxster S to Cayman S-or about the standard Boxster itself-then the Cayman's story should sound familiar.
