Oregon's workers' compensation system, once one of the worst in the country, is now one of our major assets in attracting new jobs to the state and retaining

existing jobs. Sweeping reforms in the system in 1990 have resulted in improved workplace safety and a reduction in workplace injuries and illnesses. Because of these improvements, Oregon employers this year will enjoy their fourth consecutive reduction in workers' comp premiums. Though the average 4.3 percent reduction for 1994 isn't as dramatic as the double-digit drops we saw ineach of the previous three years, it still represents an estimated $25 million in savings for Oregon employers -- enough to pay wages …
