Aug. 19--LAMAR - A 72 year-old Prowers County man has tested positive for West Nile virus. County officials confirmed Friday that the victim has been hospitalized in Pueblo with severe illness due to the mosquito-borne illness. He is the fourth human case of West Nile in the Lower Arkansas Valley this season. Recently mosquitoes collected in test pools in and around Lamar tested positive for West Nile virus, a pathogen that is typically transmitted via mosquito bites.
