Aug. 18--BRIDGEPORT -- Now that a controversial painting of Jesus Christ has been stolen from Bridgeport High, school officials are questioning what will happen in a federal lawsuit over the artwork.

According to police, a young man broke into the school about 4 a.m. Thursday and took the painting -- Warner Sallman's "Head of Christ" -- leaving its frame on the wall.

Bridgeport police have viewed three security tapes from the school, but say they have no suspects. The thief is about 5-feet 7-inches tall and between 220 and 250 pounds, said Detective Mike Lemley.
