After testing Roush Performance's Stage 3 Ford F-150 two years ago ("Opportunity Knocks,'' Aug. 16, 2004), we said acceleration junkies should hold out for the anticipated SVT Lightning. To our dismay, Ford's neglected SVT division hasn't delivered the factory super truck, and won't for the 2007 model year ("SVT's Renewed Focus,'' July 10). The good news: Roush has evolved its Stage 3 for customers who are tired of waiting.
The 50-state-legal Stage 3 now features an intercooler to go along with its supercharger, bumping the 5.4-liter Triton V8 output to 445 hp at 5000 rpm and 500 lb-ft at 3750 to 4250 rpm. The ...
