Lotus-like electric cars
On a recent tour of Tesla headquarters (News, July 31), I parked beside an amicable Ian Wright (who used to be with Tesla and is now CEO of Wrightspeed) and his Wright-speed X1. Both cars have Lotus roots: The Tesla resembles a refined, elegant Elise; the X1 is reminiscent of the balls-out Seven. I advise both firms to keep their technical secrets but embrace the competition. Get cars on the track as soon as possible and stay private for as long as possible. Silicon Valley hasn't been this much fun since Woz and Jobs gave us the Apple.

Who can make the Hornet sting?
Every time I see the upcoming Dodge Hornet I think it should be renamed Omni GLHS from 20 years ago. Why not have Carroll Shelby put his touch on it, too? It would be an affordable pocket rocket that will blow away the imports. It's already painted Shelby silver and gray, but it would look great in guardsman blue as well.
