Aug. 17--South Mecklenburg High Principal Marian Yates, the 2006 N.C. Principal of the Year, will retire Oct. 1, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools officials said Wednesday. Yates has spent her entire 37-year career with CMS and has headed South Meck for the past five years. Her retirement leaves Superintendent Peter Gorman to find three new high school principals. The principals of Harding High and Berry Academy of Technology, both on Charlotte's westside, recently announced plans to leave. But Gorman said Wednesday that Yates, Berry's David Baldaia and Harding's Curtis Carroll will be present to make sure those schools open smoothly on Aug.…
