Aug. 11--LAS ANIMAS - Just days after Lower Arkansas Valley health workers confirmed the first case of mosquitoes carrying the West Nile virus, they have discovered the first human case of the virus in Bent County. Mike Miller, regional epidemiologist in La Junta, said Thursday that at least two people in Bent County may have contracted the mosquito-borne illness. Miller said an unidentified Bent County woman has the virus and was hospitalized last week. The other case, which is not yet confirmed and was reported Wednesday, is an unidentified Bent County man.
