Aug. 11--The Republican primary for Catawba County sheriff is past, but its effect on the general-election race lingers. The Democratic challenger, Steve Hunt, heads into the fall campaign season with a fund-raising lead over 24-year incumbent David Huffman in a county where Republicans outnumber Democrats considerably. Hunt, a former Hickory Police lieutenant, had $5,280 on hand in July, according to the latest campaign-finance disclosure reports. Huffman had $359.
