Aug. 11--The town measures no larger than 2 square miles and is home to about 2,100 people.

Recent events in Murfreesboro have people in the region nervous, though, and officials are hoping it will remind them to be more aware of their surroundings and strangers passing through.

"Hertford County is not little ol' Hertford County anymore," Commissioner Curtis A. Freeman said. "We have to start being vigilant."

A week ago, the bodies of sisters Dorothy R. Hobbs, 73, and Nellie R. Bradley, 71, were discovered by a passer-by along a dirt path just north of Murfreesboro, in an area of overgrown weeds and hungry deer flies just off Vaughans Creek Road.
