Hart: This car has the classic good looks you expect in a Jag coupe. I spent some time last evening in the fading twilight walking around admiring just how damn nice the lines are on this thing. I really appreciated the extra interior room; at no time did I feel cramped. The cockpit is quite comfortable, with updated electronics. The handling is responsive and the V8 is more than adequate in propelling this cat.

Gritzinger: Overall, this XK seems exceptionally smooth and strong, possibly with almost too much steering response that makes it feel a little darty, like the front end is turning quicker than the rest of the car can handle. That may be something that just takes getting used to, after years of Jags that didn't provide such responsiveness.

Morrison: Finally, a modern Jaguar that's fun to look at, fun to be in and fun to drive.

The new XK is a true sports GT that puts a grin on my face. The engine is smooth with a nice sound, and the chassis hangs on the road well. At least one editor thinks the steering is a bit darty, but it is not. Rather, it's just a shock to experience such nimble reactions in a new car wearing the leaping cat. The more relevant surprise is discovering that feedback telegraphed through the meaty steering wheel seems to correlate to what the front tires are doing.

After a short first stint in the XK, I have few complaints. I found myself dreaming of a manual gearbox, or at least a paddle-shifted double-clutch setup. This six-speed automatic is not bad, and the paddle-shift operation works pretty well, but it upshifts too slowly.
