Steel bowls and suction cups are possible fire hazards, warns Tokyo Fire.

Department Firefighting officials are warning people against leaving out round household objects, such as plastic suction cups and steel bowls, because they can focus sunlight and start fires.

Eight fires were attributed to sunlight concentration by these kinds of objects in Tokyo last year. Four were caused by stainless-steel bowls, concave mirrors started three other fires and yet another was caused by a glass ball.

These kinds of fire are started in the same way as fire is produced when sunlight is concentrated onto paper through a magnifying glass.
