Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida has picked up an even bigger piece of GTE Florida's health insurance pie.
The local telephone company has selected Blue Cross and Blue Shield to provide a point-of-service HMO, a type of health plan typically designed to ease employees into a more tightly controlled health care system.
The point-of-service plan will be made available Jan. 1 to 5,700 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union employees. Those workers also have a choice of straight HMOs operated by Cigna Healthplan of Florida, Aetna Health Plans of Florida and Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
