Aug. 1--STOCKTON -- A former Edison High School teaching assistant who worked with deaf students took a first step Monday toward admitting guilt related to charges she had inappropriate sexual relations with a 15-year-old student. Vickie L. Kerby, 50, agreed to forgo a preliminary hearing in San Joaquin County Superior Court, and in return, a prosecutor offered a negotiated plea that could send her to jail for one year. She would have to register for life as a sexual offender under the deal.
