Teachers' organisations will next week sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to guide their attempts to cooperate or merge and turn into trade unions. The MoU is meant to direct the organisations' negotiations.

After the signing ceremony, the organisations are required to present their models of cooperation or merger to be discussed during the negotiations. Japhter Radibe, president of the Botswana Teachers' Union (BTU), which draws its membership from primary, secondary and teacher training colleges, said they prefer the unitary model.
