Jul. 27--If you like your music on the bizarre side, then Johnny Dowd's your guy.
The 58-year-old musician makes off-kilter, genre-blending songs about doomed, damaged and dysfunctional people. His songs are filled with dark -- and just plain weird -- imagery such as mechanical cockroaches chasing albino rats.
He's been called a "strange cat," "hipster-savant" and "genius." While those labels are debatable, one thing's for sure: Dowd is an open-minded musician whose songs are hard to pigeonhole.
