Jun. 22--HICKORY GROVE -- Cars driving past Hickory Grove-Sharon Elementary will need to slow down when school starts in August. York County officials sent a letter to York School District One Superintendent Russell Booker notifying him that the speed limit on S.C. 211 in front of the school will drop from 55 to 45 miles per hour this summer.

Booker said he requested the county make the adjustment to improve safety for school traffic. He also asked the county to add turn lanes, a requirement for new school construction. County officials said adding a turn lane would not be feasible because of the relatively low amount of…
