Jul. 23--Port Washington -- In the latest episode of a three-year battle, Ozaukee County is threatening 242 septic system owners with small claims action if they don't pay a $45 to $90 one-time service fee.

Another 368 septic owners also are due to pay fees but are not yet delinquent, said Ozaukee County Planning, Resources and Land Management Director Andy Holschbach.

The fee -- $90 for holding tanks and $45 for all other types of septic systems -- is assessed to pay for generating and maintaining a state-required database of all existing septic systems in the county.
