This volume contains thirty-eight essays authored by Dr. Alfred K'aiming Ch'iu (1898-1977), a great pioneer in Asian American librarianship and the founder of Harvard-Yenching Library, with introductory essays by Dr. Tsuenhsuin Tsien and Dr. Cheng Huanwen. Tsien, the former head librarian of the East Asian Library at the University of Chicago, summarizes the important contributions made by Ch'iu, particularly his establishment of a unique cataloging and classification system, later adopted by many Asian libraries worldwide.
