Christane Berkvens-Stevelinck's slim volume examines the evolution of the library of The Netherlands' first Protestant University during its four hundred-year history. After opening its doors to scholars, the Leiden University Library quickly outgrew its original residence in the registrar's house. The library has grown exponentially since that time and now houses more than two million volumes.
