The first-half story of the Indy Pro Series is short and sweet: more cars, more competition and more spark.
The Indy Racing League's development division has increased its car count from last season by 3.1 through the first six races. The series averaged 13.5 participants per race at this point last season; this year that figure is 16.6.
At least three drivers are in title contention, and the Pro Series received an attention-grabbing boost from Graham Rahal, who raced in the series during the Formula One weekend at Indianapolis.
Jay Howard, a 25-year-old Englishman who was a Formula Ford champion last year, leads the points for Sam Schmidt Motorsports without having won a race. Wisconsin's Bobby Wilson, 24, is 12 points back in the Kenn Hardley Racing machine that captured last month's race at Watkins Glen (his first Pro Series win).
Jonathan Klein is third in points for Andretti Green Racing, 25 out of the lead. The Star Mazda product has not won a race in his rookie season. Six more chances remain.
