Jul. 20--The president of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce has issued a letter, apparently on behalf of the chamber, expressing unhappiness over Mecklenburg County commissioners' failure to approve a school construction plan earlier this week. The letter, written by chamber president Bob Morgan, also calls on commissioners to reconsider the issue -- and for the public to urge commissioners to do so. At their meeting Tuesday night, county commissioners, in a 5-3 vote, rejected a plan to borrow $172 million for school construction. The money would have been spent to build new schools in fast-growing suburban areas, but a portion also would have been used for renovations at two schools -- Idlewild Elementary and Harding University High -- closer to the center of the city.…
