Former governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha, yesterday took up the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges that he had remained the major sponsor of militant groups in the Niger Delta even in detention.

In a statement made available to The Guardian, Alamieyeseigha, who personally signed it, wondered how he could carry on with such acts when he is trapped in a hospital bed with "unresolved cardiac issues" and depleted resources.

He described the EFCC's allegations as another ploy to permanently keep him in detention.
