Jul. 16--With Castello d'Oro facing 30-1 odds, one can imagine why owner Gary McCloud planned to have a party Saturday night to celebrate his horse's victory. Asked for a realistic assessment of his expectations heading into Canterbury Park's $50,000 Claiming Crown Express, he said, "Good things." He wasn't joking. To prove it, he reached into his pocket and pulled out an envelope filled with $100 tickets for his horse to win. He clearly had faith. McCloud ordered 30 pictures of Castello d'Oro in the winner's circle, enough to share his once-in-a-lifetime memories. "I'm the youngest of 11, so figure it out," McCloud said.
